Inventory data collection is often the tedious task to perform on a
retail store floor. The traditional inventory process usually requires store
personnel to tabulate inventory on clipboards for the entire store.
Physical inventory counting in this manner is full of problems and
the results are often wrong. You have a closed store that is not generating
revenue. Some one (usually the store manager) has the task of adding up all of
the information and manually entering it into the system. This can take days!
At the end of the inventory process your inventory is still wrong, and if you
are lucky, it is off by no more than 10%. Isn’t there an easier way that is
more reliable and accurate?

Industry experts agree that a more efficient way to manage physical
inventory levels is to use cycle counting. Cycle counting is counting a smaller
segment of inventory more frequently, at a predetermined interval, without
closing the store. Microsoft RMS supports cycle counting by allowing the retail
manager to produce subsets of store inventory and generate manual counting
sheets for the inventory process.
Pocket Inventory for RMS
In RMS Store Operations Manager you define small subsets of products
you wish to count. Pocket Inventory for RMS allows retailers to automate the
inventory counting process by downloading the inventory data to a Windows
Mobile device over the wireless network. Once the data is loaded in your
Windows Mobile device, you simply walk the floor and scan the physical
inventory. After you have completed the inventory counting process, you write
the changes back to RMS with a single click of the synchronize button.
The retail manager reviews the inventory results in the RMS Store
Operations Manager and, if satisfied, commits the changes to the database.
Retail managers no longer have to close the store to do inventory. Pocket
Inventory for RMS is simple to use, accurate, and saves time and labor.
How does Pocket Inventory for RMS work?
Pocket Inventory for RMS is integrated into the RMS inventory
database using a web service running under Internet Information Server (IIS).
This web service provides an important extra layer of data security because the
Windows Mobile device does not communicate directly with the RMS database. The
Windows Mobile device uses the RMS cashier’s ID to access the inventory data.
Once you have loaded the Windows Mobile device, inventory counting may occur
out of the range of the wireless network. Pocket Inventory for RMS makes the
physical inventory process simple, and affordable. Once you begin to use Pocket
Inventory for RMS, you will save time and money, and have more accurate
inventory data. Click this button to download a trial version of Pocket
