(Q) How to configure Exchange SCl filter (A) SPAM is a big problem. At KAMIND we are use to processing an very large amount of SPAM. Typically our SPAM mail processing handles between 4K – 20K SPAM emails a day. Most environments will not have to deal with the traffic as we do, and the SCL (spam confidence factor). Our SCL is set at a level that gives us a .05% false positive. Given the amount of SPAM we have, this is acceptable. A good article on setting the SPAM settings for Exchange 2003 is from Petri at http://www.petri.co.il/configure_imf_in_exchange_2003_sp2.htm (Q) Exchange server Exceeds (A) To increase the Exchange Server 2003 SP2 database size, follow these steps. Important Before you increase the maximum size of an Exchange database, verify that sufficient hard disk space is available for the larger database. 1. On the computer that is running Exchange 2003 SP2, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 2. Click one of the following registry subkeys, as appropriate for the store that you want to increase:• For a mailbox store, click the following registry subkey: 3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. 4. In the New Value #1 box, type Database Size Limit in Gb, and then press ENTER. 5. Right-click Database Size Limit in Gb, and then click Modify. 6. Click Decimal, and then type an integer from 1 to 75 in the Value data box. Note These integer values represent the maximum size of the database in gigabytes (GB). For example, a value of 75 represents a database that has a maximum size of 75 GB. 7. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor. 8. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: net stop msexchangeis c. After the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service has stopped successfully, type the following command, and then press ENTER: net start msexchangeis 9. Examine the Application log to verify that the database size has been set successfully. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr, and then click OK. b. In the Event Viewer tool, click Application. c. Double-click event ID 1216 to verify that the database size has been set successfully. So shorten the calendar entry (name to the event like “Thai Trip”), and put the detail in the message body. (Q) RMS 1.3 and MSDE (A) We recommend that users who deploy Microsoft RMS (Retail Management System), either use SQL Eerver, or SQL Server Express express. Users shoudl migrate away from MSDE as soon as possible. The reason for this is security and database reliability. In retail stores that have more than one lane, or have a network installed, we strongly recommend that you purchase Microsoft Small Business server. This software product includes Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server Workgroup edition and ISA firewall. A retail operation needs to ensure that the data in the database is secure and protected. The ISA firewall allows you to block and filter content to and from the retails tore, so the retail clerks can focus on the customers, instead of web browsing. The best solution, and the most cost effective solution is to use Small Business Server premium edition (MSRP $1299). (Q) What is Small Business Desktop Licenses? (A) The Small Business Desktop License is a company wide agreement. This can be as few as 2 PC's. This is a company wide agreement, no server is required All PC’s can upgrade to XP Pro (and vista), Office SBE 2003 (2007), SBS 2003 CAL, 3 years of SA . You can add a Small Business server on the agreement, as well as adding Office Pro as a step-up (or Visio). The agreement is very flexible. Typically this will save 28% over the retail price. (Q) SBS 2003 R2 expanded CAL rights (A) Small Business server 2003 R2 introduces expanded CAL rights. These rights are not the same as the older SBS2003 licensing. With SBS 2003R2, you can add windows member servers, Exchange, SQL Workgroup 2005 in a SBS 2003R2 network. Just purchasing the software server licenses for the new member servers. The sbs2003 user CALS/devise would cover the users in the environment. (Q) MSDE Support status with RMS 2.0 (A) Currently, Microsoft Retail Management System 1.3 and Microsoft POS 1.0 as well as earlier versions of RMS are offered with MSDE. In our next releases - specifically Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 and Microsoft Dynamics - Point of Sale 2.0, we are transitioning from MSDE to SQL Express. Existing RMS/POS customers who are on versions < 2.0 and purchase Vista-based PCs or otherwise want to upgrade to a Vista system, will not be able to re-install those versions on Vista. o RMS 1.3 (march update) Refresh supports SQL Express and SQL 2005 o RMS 2.0 will still support MSDE and SQL 2000 on platforms supported by the db engine o RMS Users can updgrade from MSDE to SQL express who are running 1.3a or later (Q) What are the key features of commerce server 2007?
